About The Sacramento Waldorf School

The Sacramento Waldorf School is a private Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade school that has been educating children in the greater Sacramento area since 1959. Our mission is to prepare young people to fulfill their highest potential by educating them according to the pedagogical and spiritual principles of Rudolf Steiner. With an enrollment of more than 400 students, we are among the largest Waldorf schools in North America. Our beautiful 22-acre campus overlooks the American River and includes a small farm, athletic fields, a gymnasium/performance hall, playgrounds, and classrooms.

Our program is developmental in approach, with a full integration of the arts in all subjects. All students benefit from individual attention from our dedicated, professional faculty and support staff. Our High School program is academically challenging:  better than 90 percent of our graduates attend college. In addition to the regular school program, we offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities including sports, drama, music, and debate.

The Sacramento Waldorf School is so much more than academic instruction, however. It is a community of active and engaged students, faculty, staff, and parents, each participating in a host of activities and endeavors that build a cooperative spirit - a village of sorts - that nurtures our children and families. There is truly a place for every student and every parent to take part in and contribute to the life of our School.

Our whole community gathers through festivals and celebrations to mark the passage of time and seasons of the year and to joyously celebrate the milestones through which our students and families pass. Our students explore their interests, advance their academic studies and step out into the greater community through clubs and activities. The cooperative learning environment in the High School is complemented by a rich and varied program of athletics in which students vigorously compete with students from throughout the region in soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, cross country, mountain biking, and skiing.

Adults also find a home at the Sacramento Waldorf School. Parents support each other and often develop deep, lifelong friendships. In turn, they support the academic, social, enrollment and development efforts of SWS through the Parent Guild, a group of welcoming, passionate and committed parents who work tirelessly on behalf of the School. The College of Teachers oversees the pedagogical life of our community, providing guidance to the academics that occur both inside and outside our beloved classrooms. The Board of Trustees is a volunteer team of professionals entrusted with oversight of the financial and legal aspects of our School's operations; they provide long-range planning and strategic leadership.

The Sacramento Waldorf School is a private educational institution fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America.
