College and Career Counseling

At Sacramento Waldorf School, our approach seeks to honor each individual’s interests, strengths, and learning styles. Our College and Career Counselor works with students and their families to chart a path beyond high school, identifying the right fit for each individual’s goals.

Our student-to-counselor ratio for seniors applying to colleges is approximately 25 to 1, compared to ratios as high as 400 to 1 in public schools and larger private schools. This allows our counselor to devote individual attention to each student’s process, supporting them and their family with the application every step of the way.

Targeted Support for the College Application Process

During junior year, our College and Career Counselor offers a College Planning Elective in Quarter 4 to prepare students for the application process in senior year. In the College Planning Elective, students create their college lists, write their resumes, plan for standardized testing, and schedule college visits. Our College and Career Counselor also makes recommendations on ways each student can strengthen their college applications before the fall.

In senior year, the College Planning Elective is offered in both Quarter 1 and Quarter 2. During this time, our College and Career Counselor helps students with all aspects of their applications, from navigating the UC and CSU portals and the Common App, to writing college essays and preparing for interviews.

Our College and Career Counselor is always available to meet one-on-one with families and students, either in person or online, and is happy to answer any questions students and families may have. Our counselor is available by email and online over the summer as well, which can be especially useful for students preparing college application materials between junior and senior year.

Support for Dual Enrollment and Identifying Other Opportunities

Our counselor also facilitates Dual Enrollment in community college classes for interested students throughout their four years of high school, administers AP tests for students interested in taking them, and helps students find summer programs and volunteer opportunities as needed. The office also provides parents with information on college and financial aid application processes at parent meetings throughout high school.

Post-Graduation Paths of Sacramento Waldorf School Students

More than 95% of our students go directly to college from high school, with the other 5% opting for a gap year, specialized training (such as conservatory or trade school), or other pursuits.

Among the colleges students choose to attend, both UC and CSU campuses are popular. Students also attend private universities and colleges in considerable numbers. About half of students bound for four-year schools opt for public universities, the other half attend private schools.
