2026 SUMMER PROGRAM
AT SACRAMENTO WALDORF SCHOOL
Our Summer Program runs from June 22 - July 31, 2026
For Students entering Kindergarten through Grade 8
Our annual Summer Program is a community favorite and a perfect way to enjoy the season. Mirroring the rhythmical structure of the Lower School, the Summer Program provides a nurturing and engaging experience for students while also allowing them to bask in the joy of the Summer season. We offer six weeks of fun and enlivening activities that make full use of our beautiful 22-acre campus. Each day, children enjoy a variety of structured projects and games as well as free time to play and connect with friends. Throughout the Summer, we create close-knit community with everyone who participates, striving for kindness, creativity, imagination, and joy.
New for 2026: Festive Fridays
Each week culminates in a special themed experience. Children will engage with guest artisans, unique collaborative projects, or hands-on explorations. Our weekly themes come to life in fresh, memorable ways, including Guest Artisans, Unique Collaborative Projects, and Hands-on Explorations.

Week 1: Earth’s Canvas (June 22-26)
Step into a world where nature is the teacher and the land is our playground. This week, we treat our 22-acre campus as a living studio, discovering that art is hidden in every leaf and shadow. Children will gather botanical dyes, sketch the secret life of the gardens in their nature journals, and sculpt with treasures found along the trail. Through scavenger hunts and plant exploration, we'll build a deep, joyful bond with the environment, learning to see the extraordinary in the everyday.
Week 2: The Artist Within Note (June 29-July 2) (no class on July 3rd)
This week is an immersion into the tactile magic of the arts. Children step into the role of the creator, feeling the cool weight of clay between their palms and watching the vibrant dance of watercolor on paper as they discover their own inner artist. Beyond the studio, we’ll bring our imagination to the outdoors with large-scale chalk murals and find our flow through grace in rhythm and movement. By celebrating the creative journey rather than just the final piece, we honor each child’s unique spark in a sunny, supportive community.
Week 3: Celestial Seasons (July 6-10)
This week, we turn our gaze to the great rhythms that shape our world, exploring the beautiful cycles woven through nature. From the rising and setting of the sun to the waxing and waning of the moon, children will discover how patterns of light, shadow, and time guide life on Earth. Through playful exploration and creative expression, we’ll uncover the steady heartbeat of the seasons.
Week 4: The Living Laboratory (July 13-17)
This week invites children to explore the world through curiosity and a sense of wonder. Rather than focusing on predetermined results, students engage in playful activities that highlight transformation and the magic of cause and effect. From discovering the science of light and pigment through color exploration to engaging in natural alchemy with simple transformations, children become young scientists. The focus remains on the beauty of the “how” and “why,” fostering a spirit of discovery in a lively, sensory environment.
Week 5: Farmer Steve and Friends (July 20-24)
Why do we have a llama? What is Atticus’s job, and where is Chicken Little? This week, we are thrilled to have our Gardening and Farming Teacher, Stephen Payne—“Farmer Steve”—sharing his love for our land and its creatures. Children will develop a deep connection with our farm animals, looking closely at their unique habits, personalities, and behaviors. By exploring how animals communicate and joining Farmer Steve in his daily rounds, children build a sense of friendship and stewardship with every creature.
Week 6: Forces of Nature (July 27-July 31)
This final week invites children to explore the foundational forces of our world—earth, air, fire, and water. Through hands-on activities and outdoor play, students engage with these elements in imaginative ways, from working with tactile clay to crafting projects inspired by the midsummer sun. Whether exploring the wind through movement or enjoying the cooling gift of water play, the week focuses on harmony and balance.
FIELD TRIPS
Students thrive on challenges and new experiences. One morning each week will be devoted to a bike ride along the American River Trail to a local café or coffee shop. This is truly one of the highlights of the program. If your child is not comfortable on a bike, they may stay on campus with alternate activities.
Younger students will enjoy walks along the American River Trail, sometimes stopping at the park for some play before walking back to campus. Our students are not allowed in or near the water.
