Our summer Art of Teaching program attracted more than 100 teachers from near and far in July 2023, demonstrating the keen hunger for Waldorf teacher preparation in the area and showing how necessary it is that SWS continue to contribute to the integrity of Waldorf education in Northern California. Most significantly, our Teacher Development Team (Andrew Sullivan, Isabelle Tabacot, Ari Magruder, and Terri Stewart) have moved through the completion of the extensively exhaustive BPPE licensing application process required for post-secondary adult education programs and are awaiting the final licensing decision (tentatively scheduled for summer 2024).
Internally, our teachers and staff have continued to engage in critical professional self-reflection, continuing education, and goal setting through our Individual Development Plan managed by the Professional Development Committee (mandated by the College of Teachers and staffed by Eloisa Rodriguez-Drake, Megan Sullivan, and Andrew May). Faculty and staff collaborate with self-selected peer mentors and with coaches assigned by the school to engage in an inquiry process focused on their own practices and questions arising from our work in the classroom and in the office in service of our students. With midyear and end-of-year reviews of these plans, faculty and staff have continued to identify strengths they can contribute to our school and areas for further growth and improvement to continue to be effective in our service to the community.
